To the editor:
I am writing to express my interest in starting a classical concert series in the 200-seat Whipple Auditorium at our new and impressive public library in downtown Cedar Rapids.
As a pianist, I have performed in numerous venues on the east coast and in Europe. Recently, I was able to meet with the new library director, who discussed with me a potential problem in obtaining and storing a baby grand (the stage is relatively small), which could be moved in and out of storage down the hall. Could this acoustic piano be stored upright, at one end of the stage, when not in use? Apparently the doorways at one end of the stage should be redesigned to facilitate the move.
I feel that a concert series of this nature would be culturally enriching to the community. Hopefully, the Iowa Arts Council will offer support and encouragement.
