In Memory Of
PATRICIA (READ) TRACEY
Marion
Patricia Ann Tracey, 62, passed away Dec. 31, 2014, in her home in Fort Myers, Fla., surrounded by her family after a seven-year battle with cancer. At Pat's request, there was no service. There will be a celebration of life for family and friends at a later date.
Pat was born April 19, 1952, in Marion, Iowa, to Warren and Helen (Lutz) Read. She was a member of the Lutheran faith and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion. She was a graduate of Marion High School, class of 1971. She grew up in Marion and lived there until 1975, when she moved to Sanibel Island, Fla., where she married Gordon Tracey on Feb. 14, 1976. They lived there until 2007, then moved to Fort Myers.
Pat is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Gordon Tracey; mother, Helen Read of Marion; sister, Nancy Hutchings of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Edward Read of Marion; nephew, Michael Hutchings and wife Terrisa of Las Vegas; great-niece, Natalia; great-nephew, Maxim; and cousin, Warren E. Anderson and wife Jeri of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her father, Warren E. Read; and grandparents, George W. and Emma Lutz and Warren L. and Katherine Read.
Pat worked in the retail merchandising business for many years. She was last employed by Unilever.
Pat was a very loving and compassionate person who cared deeply for others. She was always more concerned about her family and friends than she was for herself. She always had a wonderful attitude no matter what she faced in life. Even through her cancer treatments, she took it in stride and never complained. I know, as her brother, she was afraid of what she would have to face in her future, but she tried not to show it. Probably one of the toughest people I will ever know. She never gave up and fought as long as she could to stay alive.
Pat enjoyed, most of all, time spent with her family and friends, time at the beach and leisure time after work in her pool. She dearly loved Christmas time, and was always thrilled to come home to Iowa for the holidays.
Pat and Gordon also enjoyed diving and time spent at their condo in the Cayman Islands. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary or any other special occasion. You could always count on a card or call just to remind you that she remembered.
Pat, you were a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to us all. You have left a huge hole in our hearts that can never be repaired. You will be dearly missed and remembered for as long as we all live. Thank you for being such an important part of our lives. We will love and miss you forever.
~ Until we meet again, your loving family
