Manatt, Doris Ann Hawkins
Doris Ann Hawkins Manatt, 81, of Brooklyn, died of cancer Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. Visitation will be at Kloster Funeral Home in Brooklyn, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn.
Memorials may be given to BGM Citizens Scholarship Foundation (CSF) designated for the Doris Manatt Scholarship.
Doris Ann Hawkins was born March 23, 1930, in rural Poweshiek County, to Elmer Hawkins and Josephine Kriegel Hawkins. She received her education from the Brooklyn school system, where she graduated in 1948. Doris Hawkins married Gerald John (Junie) Manatt Sr. on Nov. 17, 1949, in Brooklyn. They were later divorced.
Doris gave her whole family tremendous love and always made life fun for them. Family gatherings, holidays and “game days” at her house will be cherished memories forever. She treasured many wonderful friendships, and welcomed adventure, near or far, enjoying many wonderful trips. Her smile was loved by everyone.
Survivors include two sons, John (Marlene) Manatt of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and Tim (Genny) Manatt of Gilbertville; four daughters, Debi (Bill) Olson of Grinnell, Melia (Steve) Rhoads, Mary Jo (Jeff) Thompson and Mindy (Raymond) Holder. all of Brooklyn; two brothers, Dale (Yvonne) Hawkins and Gene (Lorraine) Willett, both of Brooklyn; one sister, Mary Cochran of Williamsburg; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Donald; and brother, Dean Hawkins.
