Kernels beat Kane County, 4-1

GENEVA, Ill. — A trio of pitchers combined on a four-hitter to lead the Cedar Rapids Kernels past Kane County, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon in Midwest League baseball.
The Kernels (4-3) won two of three games in the series, handing Kane County (5-2) its first two losses of the season. Cedar Rapids returns home Thursday night to begin a home series against Wisconsin.
Andrew Vasquez (1-0) picked up the victory in relief for the Kernels, throwing 3 1/3 innings of one-hit, shutout baseball. Starter Eduardo Del Rosario went the first 4 2/3 innings, striking out seven and giving up a run.
Colton Davis pitched the ninth for his first save, striking out a pair.
Mitchell Kranson's leadoff home run in the sixth inning put the Kernels on top for good, 2-1. Jaylin Davis also homered for C.R.
