DORIS EILEEN HEIDERSCHEIT
Cedar Rapids
Doris Eileen Heiderscheit, 71, of Cedar Rapids, passed on June 4, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. She was born in Oelwein, Iowa, on Dec. 18, 1944. Doris, one of six children born to Claire and Rita Kalb, now resides in heaven waiting for her loved ones on earth to join her. Doris passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends after a brief battle with cancer.
She is survived by the love of her life and husband of nearly 51 years, Daniel Heiderscheit; three daughters, Dawn Leonard, Denise Van Gorden and Diane Zearley; sons-in-law, Seth Leonard, Laird Van Gorden and Roger Zearley; grandchildren, Krizia Zearley, Kylee Zearley, Paige Van Gorden and Samantha Zearley; one great-granddaughter, RyAnne Zearley-Clayton; and lifelong friend, Connie LeMont and family.
Doris was preceded in death by their only son, Michael Joseph Heiderscheit; her parents, Claire and Rita Kalb; and grandmother, Anna Donahue.
Family, friends, sewing and the love of travel were Doris's passion and delight. She loved to sew and spent countless hours sewing quilts for her family. We will cherish those beautiful quilts forever. She did an excellent job raising her family and instilling in each of us a strong sense of faith, forgiveness and what it means to truly love someone. Through sickness and in health, through good times and bad, Doris truly loved her family and with love and respect taught her children the true meaning of a loving, supportive family.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family until 8 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their care they gave to Doris.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
