Marie E. Sandquist, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, with her children by her side. Funeral service: 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. Following the service, a reception will be held at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Private family inurnment: Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Marie was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Machacek) Blocker. She graduated from Traer High School and also attended Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids. She married Donald Sandquist in 1982 in Marion, Iowa. Marie worked at Meth-Wick Community as a finance manager until she retired in 1994. In her younger years Marie love to go bowling, and during her lifetime she visited 49 out of 50 states. Marie was a beautiful artist with her needlework and she adored her faithful dog and companion, Penny.
Survivors include her children, Sandi Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Rita (Bob) Core of Helendale, Calif., and John (Wendi) Gabrielson of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four stepchildren, Stephen Sandquist, Jon (Jean) Sandquist, Julie Cole and Robert Sandquist.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mary; and husband, Donald, in 2006.
Memorials may be directed in Marie's name to: Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, 701 10th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403, to support pancreatic cancer research.
