How far does one go to be protected?

News is hard to keep current and manageable. Today it's about shootings and their outcomes.
The National Rifle Association suggests schools increase security to preclude invasions (shootings from a 50-story hotel room into a crowd were not mentioned). Cost is not considered, but they favorably suggest a service to help schools.
What would be the outcome of an invasion into NRA offices by a shooter? Maybe they have sufficient protection or maybe they don't. How far does one go to be protected?
There was a time when school safety was concerned only about fires. That was long ago. So much has to be considered now.
