Evelyn M. Fisher, 86, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Marion, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Park Place Care Center, Mount Pleasant. A gathering celebrating Evelyn's life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Evelyn was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Frank L. and Hazel M. Berry. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945. At 19, she was chosen Miss Cedar Rapids at the Policemen's Ball of 1946. She married Richard Kemp in 1948 and they were later divorced. She worked for Alpha Crushed Stone in Marion from 1966 to 1972. She married Doyle E. Fisher in April 1972 and went on to retire from Marion Mixers in 1983.
Evelyn and Doyle enjoyed traveling, grandchildren, friends and spending time at their trailer in Lund's Camp, south of Harpers Ferry on the Mississippi River. After her husband's death in 2004, she remained active in the Marion community. In 2009, Evelyn moved to Mount Pleasant to live with her daughter, Barbara.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle; a sister, Maxine Cannady; niece, Sandra Bauer; and nephew, Frank Beers.
She is survived by daughter, Barbara (Paul) Anderson of Mount Pleasant; son, Gary (Myrna) Fisher of Cedar Rapids; and daughter, Gayle (Bloyce) Johnson of West Des Moines. Also surviving are five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Philip (Jonna) Anderson, Chase and Lane; Brian (Chivonne) Anderson, Sydney and Sam; David (Heather) Fisher, Elise and Ryker; Steve (Heather) Johnson, Collette; and Sandi (Kristen) England.
A memorial fund has been established.
