Fisher, Evelyn L.
Evelyn L. Fisher, 87, of Clarence, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at her home. Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Clarence, by Pastor Jim Goodrich. Burial: Clarence Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Survivors include her husband, Frank; son, Dennis Fisher of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Anthony Fisher of Ames, Gregory (Darath) Fisher of Pella and Jeffrey (Wendy) Fisher of Deerfield, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Trey, Malik and Chase; and a sister, Bernita Walker of Tipton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sandra; and sister, Marcella Soper.
Born July 24, 1922, in Clarence, the daughter of Arnold and Katie (Schwitzer) Meier, she married Frank Fisher there on Dec. 21, 1941. Evelyn was a 1939 graduate of Clarence High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She then taught for two years at Hawthorne No. 2 country school, rural Clarence. She was a member of First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren in Cedar Rapids and for many years belonged to the Cedar Church of the Brethren, where she was active in teaching Sunday school and playing the piano.
Evelyn had several hobbies, including craft work, quilting and her delight was collecting salt and pepper shakers. She always enjoyed remembering people on special days.
