An Iowa City man was arrested for keeping a drug house, two felony drug charges of controlled substance violation and neglect or abandonment of a dependant person after a search warrant issued at his residence on Wednesay revealed that drugs were within reach of his seven-year-old daughter.
Police say that Christopher R. “Crick” Hinshaw, 27, of 627 Orchard Court, possessed numerous drugs including marijuana and heroin and had drug paraphernalia at his residence. Hinshaw admitted to selling marijuana and heroin to support his drug habit, Iowa City police said.
Reports indicate that syringes used to inject heroin, razor blades with drug residue, and marijuana with packaging materials were allegedly found in the girl's bedroom. Several hundred used syringes were also found piled near toys, and pornographic DVDs were mixed in with children's movies.
The girl was removed from the home and is now in the care of DHS.
Hinshaw was being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $47,500 cash bond Thursday morning.
Neglect or abandonment is a class C Felony punishable by up to ten years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine. Hinshaw also faces one class C felony controlled substance violation and one class D felony
