Jury selection finally got under way at 1:30 p.m. today in the child endangerment trial of a man accused of physically abusing his infant daughter in 2011.
Opening statements may not start until Tuesday.
Timothy Holderfield, 25, is charged with child endangerment causing serious injury. He is accused of abusing the infant on three different occasions. The 46-day-old infant suffered suffered a broken clavicle and ribs, and bruising to her chest and face.
The trial is expected to last two or three days in Linn County District Court.
According to court records, police were call to St. Luke's Hospital Jan. 21, 2011 when Holderfield brought his daughter to the emergency room. He claimed he heard a "popping" sound while burping the infant.
"Further examination revealed the child had rib fractures and other older healing fractures that were indicative of physical abuse," according to the criminal complaint. "The defendant had exclusive supervision of the child when the injuries were inflicted."
Investigators believe the abuse happened inside Holderfield's mobile home, according to police. Holderfield was charged after a six week investigation.
