Dorothy Marie Sirowy, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center from a brief illness. Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with the Rev. Carol Sundberg presiding. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Brosh Chapel.
Dorothy was born June 26, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joe and Libbie (Makousky) Staskal. She married Donald M. Sirowy on Sept. 5, 1946. Dorothy and Don farmed near Fairfax. She was an active member at CSA Lodge Prokop Velky No. 137 and Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was involved in many groups, Bible study and visiting shut-ins. She loved watching the Hawkeyes, listening to music, dancing, sending cards and spending time with her loving family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Don (Kathy) of Cedar Rapids, Vicky Sawyer of Clarence and Larry (Darla) of Martinez, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Tammy (Mark) Carlson, Angie Sirowy, Dawn (Greg) Sirowy, Denise (Ron) Bily, Buffi (Rodney) Honeck, Alexandra (Joe) Cloyes, Elizabeth Sirowy and Andrew Sirowy; two stepgrandchildren, Justine (Price) Sawyer and Christine Sawyer (Mike Callahan); 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Erma Meskimen of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Shar Tomash of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, Bob (Marlene) Sirowy of Fairfax; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Donald; an infant son, Danny Allan; a brother, Vernon J. Staskal; and her sisters, Eleanor Dusil and Ruth Mitvalsky.
