Mitvalsky, Ruth L. Staskal
Ruth L. Staskal Mitvalsky, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Cottage Grove Place. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her sons, Robert (Vicki) of Florida and James (Connie) of Cedar Rapids; and her daughter, Cynthia McKeown of Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Staci Mitvalsky of Florida, Ryan Mitvalsky of Pennsylvania, Cassandra Mitvalsky of Cedar Rapids, Whitney Joachim of Waverly and Brenna and Lara McKeown of Florida; and three great-grandsons, Noah, Tavius and Landon. Ruth is also survived by her loving sisters, Erma Meskimen and Dorothy Sirowy, both of Cedar Rapids; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Vernon Staskal; and sister, Eleanor Dusil.
Ruth was born Nov. 14, 1925, daughter of Joseph and Libbie Staskal.
Ruth graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. She worked at Kirkwood Community College for many years as well as The Eastern Iowa Airport. She was a chaplain of the VFW and enjoyed polka dancing, playing cards and golf.
Ruth was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, Babi, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Memorials should be directed to Mercy Hospice, the VFW or a charity of your choice.
