Wedeking, Wilma E.
Wilma E. Wedeking, 89, of Waverly, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 10, 2012, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Wilma was born May 2, 1923, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of George William and Esther Louise (Guhlow) Segebarth. Wilma attended the Waverly school system, graduating from Waverly High School in 1941. On Dec. 20, 1942, Wilma was united in marriage to Erwin Carl Wedeking at Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly. The couple made their home in Waverly, where Wilma kept busy with raising her family and working in her big garden, canning what it produced and baking delicious desserts and breads for her family. In the late 1960s, Wilma went to work at B.E. Micks Apparel Shop, where she was employed for over 30 years.
Erwin died Feb. 19, 1996, and Wilma continued to live in her home in Waverly until Aug. 11, 2008, when she became a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
Wilma was a faithful member of Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly, where she served in many different capacities, including Women's Fellowship and teaching Sunday school. In her spare time Wilma enjoyed driving friends to coffee, movies and church, but most dear to her heart was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wilma is survived by her three children and their spouses, Dennis and Dixie Wedeking of Moore, S.C., Linda and Scott Kollenkark of Waverly, Iowa, and John and Beckie Wedeking of Blairstown, Iowa; her daughter-in law, Jeanne Wedeking of Walcott, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Fleischer of Boise, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin; her parents, George and Esther; a son, Richard in 1983; and a sister, Georgena Kleiss.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly, with Pastor Jon Hennings officiating. Burial will be at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Public visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 14, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and one hour before services Monday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Peace United Church of Christ or Cedar Valley Hospice, Waverly office.
