JOHNSON COUNTY - A Chicago MegaBus driver was arrested for driving a bus containing passengers while intoxicated, authorities said.
An Iowa State trooper said he pulled 52-year-old Carl Smiley over just after 10 p.m. Friday, when he said he noticed that the driver could not maintain the lane he was in, while driving westbound on Interstate 80.
Once stopped, Smiley smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted he had been drinking, the patrolman said.
According to a criminal complaint, Smiley failed a standard field sobriety test and was taken to the Johnson County jail just after midnight Saturday.
He is being charged with second-offense OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor, and is being held on $2,000 cash bond.
Smiley had an initial court appearance this morning, but a following court date has not been set.
