Comedy doesn’t have to be crude

I totally agree with Rosemary Weydert and her letter of Aug. 2 'World needs more smiles, laughter.”
Years ago, comedy did not have to be 'off color” to be humorous. Recently, I watched a rerun of an old Jack Benny program in black and white.
The 30-minute program took almost 20 minutes to come to a punch line that I knew was coming for at least 10 minutes before it arrived. When the punch line came, I still could not resist laughing. That is comedy by a master.
I think there are lessons to be learned here.
