Michael Ambrose Dreckman, 67, of Iowa City, died Thursday, March 1, 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer. The family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd. in Coralville. Private burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City.
Instead of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to the Regina Foundation.
Mike was born April 13, 1950, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Ambrose and Mona Dreckman. He attended St. Patrick's elementary school and Regina High School, graduating in 1968.
He worked for many years in Iowa City for Chandler Co., Plumb Supply, and Contractor's Tool and Supply. He also owned and operated a bar in Oelwein, Iowa, for five years. Mike, also known as Buzzy, was a big fan of the Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed family get-togethers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Hannah; and his brother, Dan.
He is survived by his sisters, Brigit Leeney (Gene) of Oxford and Monica Louvar (Robert); and his brother, Pat Dreckman (Mary) of Iowa City. He also is survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews and their children.
The family would like to thank the doctors involved in Mike's treatment, the staff of Iowa Care and Rehabilitation, and the staff of Iowa City Hospice. All gave him exceptional care during his last illness.
