The Walk Through -- Fleming in uni, no Malloy (updating)

The Hawkeyes will try to snap a seven-game losing streak against Missouri State today.
The Bears are an FCS school that will get $425,000 for playing in Kinnick today. They'll play more relevant games to coach Terry Allen and the school's situation against another Iowa school.
The Bears finish their season when they host Northern Iowa on Nov. 16. MSU has spent $2.3 million on football. The president gave all a vote of confidence at the beginning of the season that sounded more like a warning. The expectation is relevant football in November. The Bears have a chance to do that. The football we see today on the BTN beginning at 11 will not be relevant.
-- The QBs are out tossing.
-- Health report: All good. Corners BJ Lowery and Jordan Lomax talked Tuesday, always a good sign. I could see some starters sitting or playing a quarter and a half. Iowa shouldn't need to pour it all out today.
-- I'll see if redshirt freshman RB Michael Malloy shows. He was out last week and he could be out out. Nothing confirmed.
-- The TEs are catching with the QBs. Easy joke there. I'll let you guys fill it in.
-- MSU does have a truck. It's a little white one. A rental, I think.
-- So, I guess Dolph got on the radio and said freshman WR Matt VandeBerg is having his redshirt pulled. I didn't hear it. I don't know about that one, but who knows.
VandeBerg is from Brandon, S.D. He originally was going to come in as a grayshirt, but got the full schollie just a few days before camp. He's 6-1, 170, so he's a lil' guy. Let's keep an eye on this.
A Twitter folk confirmed that Dolph indeed said VandeBerg is playing.
Other freshmen who I think could play:
-- RB LeShun Daniels: This one makes sense. Ferentz has said he's playing. My guess is they do it today.
-- LB Reggie Spearman: Keep hearing he's impressive. Yes, he's 17, but Iowa needs to win right now.
-- CB Desmond King: He's in. He played last week.
The VandeBerg decision is crazy. I didn't see it coming. Does he have superior short-area quickness, something that lacked with bigger receivers last week.
Get to know Matt VandeBerg (no 'n' and no bear rug):
-- Specialists out. They're trying 51-yarders in to the north end zone. Making them easily.
-- Iowa radio just said no CB Jordan Lomax today. He's being held back with the hamstring injury he suffered last week. It didn't look terrible, he talked Tuesday, so maybe just caution.
Desmond King will get the start. He's a true freshman from Detroit. He played a lot of the fourth quarter last week. Here's what Ferentz said about him this week:
"He competed well. Some technique things that he can improve on, but the big thing was he wasn't overwhelmed. He had a good demeanor on the sideline and he was eager to compete and all that type of thing. Hopefully we can move him forward a little bit this week, too. He's in the water swimming now."
-- Sounds like Reggie Spearman is playing today. Special teams and maybe some D.
Here's a Spearman video (he turned 17 on Aug. 17.):
-- Getting ready for receivers to warm up.
-- Vs. a 3-4 defense, Podolak: Hard to tell where the pressure is coming from. Challenges the OL. RB reacts to the soft spot. Center and two guards need to figure out who to block. Center vs. noseguard with some help. There's a timing to the blocking scheme.
Ed thought the D-line might've been overly protective in rush lanes, need to put pressure on QB.
-- KF on the radio: Turnovers, special teams. If we're going to be a winning football team, we've got to clean that up.
KF on WR Damond Powell: Keep trying to bring him along. High-energy player.
KF on DL: Watching film, thought did a lot of good things up front. Clearly better than a year ago. More stout.
KF on secondary: It's a combination. Experience hurt. Have to do a better job back there.
-- CB Maurice Fleming is dressed and out there. He might play.
RB Michael Malloy is not on the field.
-- All right, 15 minutes to kick.
There is a little rain on the radar:
-- The band is wearing gold polos. They don't look very band-y.
Beautiful morning
