Support the no-wake rule at Lake Macbride
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 30, 2011 11:47 am
The next Iowa General Assembly will be in session in January. This should be the year that the Iowa Senate is given the opportunity to pass SF 54 concerning the change of Lake Macbride's rule of a special season for 10 horsepower motor limits. Lake Macbride is the only one of its size in Iowa that still has such a limit.
Last year, the Iowa House approved the change that all anglers deserve. The corresponding bill in the Senate was buried in committee. Sen. Dick Dearden, committee chairman, recently promised in a public hearing that he would support sending the bill to the full Senate. He is appointing committee members before the Senate session opens. Please contact Dearden at dick.dearden@legis.state.ia.us, confirming your support for the year-round, no-wake provision for Lake Macbride. Fishermen, this is likely the closest we will ever be in overcoming the current unfair regulation.
