Shawn Dennis Shaw, born Aug. 28, 1966, in Columbus, Ga., a beloved educator of children, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016.
Shawn was a prominent competitive swimmer growing up and loved sports. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School. He received degrees from the University of Iowa and furthered his education to receive his double masters from the University of California in school administration and child education.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stuart Shaw; maternal grandparents, Theodore and Mildred Heiple; paternal grandparents, Beatrice and Spencer Shaw; aunt, Olivia Burns; and his uncle, David, and aunt Shirley Heiple.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marti Shaw; his stepchildren, Rachel and Isaiah; children, Paige and Riley Shaw; his mother, Jeanette M. Shaw; brothers, Scott Shaw (Ronaldo Shaw) and Shannon Shaw (Sondra Longcor); and nephews, Skylar and Chase Shaw.
The Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Capital Christian Center, 9470 Micron Ave., Sacramento, CA 95827; with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Shawn's name, in honor and for the benefit of the children at Del Paso Heights Elementary School, whom he so dearly loved to teach and mentor.
