Novey, Barbara A.
Barbara A. Novey, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha. The Rev. Mark Ressler will officiate. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where there will be a vigil service and rosary recited at 4 p.m. There also will be a visitation at the church after 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Survivors include her husband Raymond; two daughters Karen Holliday of Cedar Rapids and Cheryl Busbee of Van Horne; two sons, Stephen (Carol) of Central City and Brian (Donna) of Martelle; and one sister, Judy (Tom) Shaw of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Adam, Camie, Jenny, Jon, Drew, Korie, Greg and McKenna; eight stepgrandchildren; 25 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 29 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Novak; and a son-in-law, Dale Holliday.
Barbara was born June 17, 1936, in La Porte City, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Synacek) Novak. She married Raymond D. Novey on May 2, 1959, in Cedar Rapids.
Barbara was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Good Earth Garden Club and volunteered at the Linn County Historical Society. She enjoyed bird watching, knitting and especially the time spent with her friends and beloved family.
Barbara was a wonderful wife, sister, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established.
