Elsbury, Arvin C.
Arvin C. Elsbury, 88, of Strawberry Point, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Strawberry Point, with Pastor Scott Roser officiating.
Interment: Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point.Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct.3, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, and one hour before service Thursday at the church.
He was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Manchester, the son of Fred and Gladys (Kelley) Elsbury. Arvin was raised and educated in the Manchester and Strawberry Point areas.On Dec. 20, 1952, Arvin was united in marriage to Dolores Wickham in Strawberry Point. Together they farmed near Strawberry Point then moved to Farmersburg, and back to Strawberry Point and Arlington area. Arvin retired to town in 1993.
Arvin enjoyed family gatherings, farming, gardening, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his five children, Jerrald (Ruth) Elsbury of Strawberry Point, Marsha (Daniel) Novak of Atkins, Cheryl (Todd) Elsbury-Reiher of Shell Rock, Sharon Mohning of Cedar Rapids, and Connie (Dan Schachtner) Elsbury of Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Kevin (Meagan) Elsbury, Tim Elsbury, Ryan Elsbury, Sara Elsbury, Justin Novak, Nick Novak, Kristi (fiance, Ben Moquist) Novak, Katarina Reiher, Michael Reiher, Samuel Reiher, Johnathon Mohning and Joseph Mohning; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Wickham of Strawberry Point and Rose Elsbury of St. Paul, Minn.
Arvin was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores in 2008; one grandson, Joshua Mohning; his parents, Fred and Gladys Elsbury; two brothers, Leonard and Virgil Elsbury; and four sisters, Mabel Tapps, Lorraine Elsbury, Lavon Trumblee and Gordetta Streicher.
