Novak, Katheryn Bette
Katheryn Bette Novak, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Deacon Phil Saunders will officiate. Burial, with military honors, in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include her beloved husband, Leonard; and daughters, Sherin Novak of Solon, Karin (Bob) Novak of Morganton, N.C., and Kathleen Martin of Cedar Rapids.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Josh (Krista) Novak, Mike Novak and Ryan and Matt Martin; and two great-granddaughters, Ava and Clara Novak.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Pam Novak; brothers, Robert and Eugene Burrier; and a lifelong friend, Phyllis Stolba.
Katheryn was born Aug. 22, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Ellis and Florence (Raines) Burrier. She married Leonard J. Novak on Feb. 6, 1948, in Cedar Rapids.
Katheryn was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy Waves, serving from 1944 to 1946. Katheryn was an adventurous soul who loved her family and life and would greet everyone with a bright smile. She was an avid bowler for team Prime Timers and an extraordinary scrabble player who enjoyed beating the pants off everyone. She also enjoyed learning new things on her laptop computer.
