Alderman, Wanda Mary
Wanda Mary Alderman, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church, by the Rev. LaVerne Schueller. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held 3 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Wanda is survived by her three children, Kevin (Jen Witte), Kim (Dan) and Joseph; six grandchildren; two siblings, Darrell (Joanne) Hennessey and Sharon (Bob) Hey; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Dixie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward (2005); her parents and two sisters.
Wanda Mary Hennessey was born Aug. 8, 1934, in Wyoming, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Mary (Cashman) Hennessey. She married Edward Earl Alderman on April 23, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.
She loved her grandchildren dearly. Wanda was a gardener, baker, volunteer, and very active at St. Jude Catholic Church, where she has been a longtime member. She was a homemaker and child care provider throughout her life and in her later years she worked for Miller Brothers Monument and Family Service Agency.
Wanda will be remembered for bringing cookies to co-workers and making afghans for family and friends.
