You saw the headline.
North Texas is No. 146. That's according to Jeff Sagarin, the mastermind of the Sagarin Ratings that were used in the BCS formula back when there was a BCS.
Remember those dark days?
Sagarin's weekly college football rankings lump every FBS and FCS team together. It isn't a perfect formula, in my humble opinion. I say that since Alabama is ranked No. 2 and has lost a home game!
At least the team that beat Bama is Sagarin's No. 1, Ole Miss.
He has Michigan State just 24th, four spots behind Oregon. MSU beat Oregon.
But North Texas, which is 0-2 with clear-cut losses to SMU and Rice, is way, way down his list. Of all the 14 opponents of Big Ten teams Saturday, the Mean Green are 19 spots lower than anyone else.
By the way, eight of the Big Ten's foes are ranked 104th or lower. The highest is No. 16 West Virginia, which hosts Maryland.
North Texas is ranked below 27 FCS teams, including No. 93 Northern Iowa.
The Mean Green are ahead of just nine FBS teams. One is No. 156 Miami (Ohio). Another is No. 177 Wyoming.
Miami (Ohio) plays at Iowa next year. Wyoming visits the Hawkeyes in 2017.
