ELEANOR "ELLY" NICKEL

Eleanor "Elly" (Radosevich) Nickel, 78, of Marion, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.
Elly is survived by her husband, John Nickel of Marion; son, Jeff (Rebecca) Nickel of Colorado; daughter, Tara (Rick Smith) Nickel of Florida; a sister, Mitzie Stansberry of Ottumwa; nephews, Kenneth of Centerville, Mike of Nebraska and Jack of Ottumwa; and niece, Susie of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Cheryl Stansberry; and in-laws, Velma Jane and Jay Nickel.
Elly was born Oct. 26, 1937, to Charles and Ann (Susich) Radosevich in Numa, Iowa. She attended grades one through eight at St. Mary's Catholic School. She attended Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa, and graduated in 1956. At that time she got a job in Des Moines working at Travelers Insurance until marrying John Nickel in 1963. A son, Jeffrey, was born to them in 1964. In 1966, they moved to Cedar Rapids, where a daughter, Tara, was born in 1968.
When her children were teenagers she took a part-time job at Siebke Hoyt Jewelers, where she worked for 10 years. At that time, she worked full-time at United Security & Savings Bank until retirement. Missing working, she took a part- time job at Coldwell Banker Hedges Realty for 10 more years.
Her biggest interests were playing tennis, golf, biking, working out at the Y and Curves, and visiting her children. She had an immense love for all animals.
Her religion was very important to her, and she had been a member of All Saints Catholic Parish since 1966.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
