Hawkeyes in the NFL: Matt Kroul and Julian Vandervelde tackle the center position

Aug. 9, 2012 1:50 pm
With everyone in the NFL playing preseason games from tonight through the weekend, here's a look at some items about former Iowa Hawkeyes players in The League before there are some games on which to make rash judgments about their prospects for the season ahead:
Brush with celebrity: Converted defensive lineman Matt Kroul is now a New York Jets center. And he's been snapping the football to a quarterback who apparently is well-known in some circles: Tim Tebow. Here's the nj.com story on the matter, though Kroul is barely mentioned.
Another former Hawkeye who never played center until recently is Julian Vandervelde, who is adding that position to his repertoire with the Philadelphia Eagles. Vandervelde is a second-year NFL guard.
After nine years with the Indianapolis Colts, tight end Dallas Clark in this tbo.com story that there is "absolutely no carryover from what I dealt with in Indy -- and I didn't think that was possible It's all fresh and it's all new, which makes this camp pretty important to me."
Linebacker Pat Angerer is embracing the Colts' new defense.
This isn't a football update, but I think it says something. Baltimore Ravens safety Sean Considine, who played for the Andy Reid-coached Eagles for four seasons, went to Pennyslvania for the Tuesday funeral of Reid's son, Garrett Reid.
