Thelma Lee Filling, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at West Ridge Care Center. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place following the service in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Thelma was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Dawn, Mo., to Glenn and Charlotte (Powell) Sperry. On Nov. 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to George Charles Filling. She was an active member of Cedar Christian Church for more than 50 years. She worked for the Cedar Rapids Public Schools as a secretary and enjoyed working hand in hand with the teachers and students. She also loved to spend her time reading.
Thelma is survived by her two children, Steven (Anna Epperson) Filling of Turlock, Calif., and Constance (Rob Hevey) Filling of Glenview, Ill.; two grandchildren, Tess of San Francisco, Calif., and James of Turlock, Calif.; and her four brothers, Gerald (Ella Mae) of Cedar Rapids, Willard (Betty) of Marion, John (Jan) of Hiawatha and Dale (Virginia) of Marengo.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George; her parents; and an infant brother, Howard.
