CEDAR RAPIDS - While most City of Cedar Rapids offices are closed today, Monday and on Jan. 2 in observation of the Christmas and New Year's holidays, there is to be no delay in garbage, recycling and yard waste collection.
All customers should have their garbage, recycling and yard waste carts out for collection by 7 a.m. on their normal collection day throughout the entire holiday season, according to a news release from the city of Cedar Rapids.
As a reminder, gift wrap, bows, and ribbon should all be placed in the garbage while cardboard boxes and packaging can be recycled.
To dispose of cardboard, customers should break down the boxes and put them in their recycling cart. When the cart is full, customers are asked to cut down boxes, make bundles no larger than 2 feet by 3 feet, and secure the pieces of cardboard with packing tape so crews can grab a bundle rather than having to pick up several loose pieces.
