Rose Ann (Koppes) Vondracek, 70, of Fairfax, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, in her home surrounded by her family. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with the Rev. Glenn Hunt presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel. A private family inurnment will be at Anderson Cemetery in Swisher.
Rose Ann was born June 12, 1944, in Cascade, the daughter of Herbert and Erma (Kelchen) Koppes. She attended grade school at St. Peter's, Temple Hill, then went on to graduate from Aquin High School in Cascade. After graduation, she moved to Cedar Rapids. On Aug. 23, 2003, she was united in marriage to Alvin Vondracek, the love of her life.
Rose Ann was born and raised on the farm, which she loved. She was active in 4-H throughout her grade school years. Rose Ann worked for Byers & Happel for 15 years, then Valenta Plumbing & Heating before retiring.
After retiring, she loved working with Alvin restoring IH tractors. They traveled on many tractor rides, including one across Iowa. She loved the time with the family, cooking, especially baking kolaches for family gatherings.
Rose Ann is survived by her husband, Alvin; her son, Dean (Roxann) Pospisil of Mount Vernon; stepchildren, Craig (Karen) Vondracek of Swisher, Connie (Dave) Dvorak of Swisher and Cherie (Doug) Johnson of Western; one granddaughter, Paige Pospisil; seven stepgrandchildren, Ryan Martin, Joe Martin, Emily (Paulo) Marcantonio, Allison (George) Bohren, Andrea (Paden) Klein-hesselink, Jeremy Johnson and Austin Vondracek (Leah Buckley); two stepgreat-grandchildren Cruz and Kaylee Bohren; her sister, Arlene (Earl) Takes of Cedar Rapids; her brothers, Tom Koppes of Phoenix, Ariz., Loras Koppes (Erma Heiken) of Wyoming, Kenneth (Marian) Koppes of Marion and Jim (Diane) Koppes of Cascade; a sister-in-law, Pat Koppes of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in law, Edna (Wendall) Turnipseed of Wisconsin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Stepchildren from a previous marriage are Scott (Linda) Pospisil, Penny (Keith) Shedek and Julie (Tom) Lavrenz. Also stepgrandchildren, Ross (Aubrey), Sarah (Scott), Travis, Brian (Lindsey), Brad (Jill), Dan, Steven, Craig, Michael, Jeffrey and Matthew; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Steele, Crew and Reid.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; one brother, Ronald Koppes; one nephew, Scott Koppes; and a brother in infancy.
