Joyce Poulter
JOYCE POULTER
Anamosa
Joyce E. Poulter, 92 and a longtime Anamosa resident, died Monday, March 19, 2018, in Chanhassen, Minn.
She had moved to the Twin Cities area in late 2013 to be closer to family as various health conditions affected her. She was an active and outgoing resident of Presbyterian Homes' Summer Wood Senior Community in Chanhassen at her death.
Joyce lived fully and joyfully for 20 years after the 1998 death of her husband, James R. Poulter, former superintendent (1962 to 1986) of the Anamosa Community School District. She and Jim met in college at Iowa State University, Ames, and married in 1947. They came to Anamosa in 1962 and raised their family in the community. Joyce was an all-in participant in the Anamosa-area community, active in the United Methodist Church, member and periodic leader of various clubs and organizations such as Ophelian Club, Cornelian Club and Hospital Auxiliary, a Fawn Creek member and golfer into her late 80s, a quilter, knitter and seamstress, and a bridge player into the last week of her life.
Joyce also was the last surviving child of the Elmer Sebo family of Madelia, Minn. Her parents were Elmer and Alice, and she had three brothers, Kenneth, Leslie and Jay.
She is survived by three children, Steve (Anne) of Bloomington, Minn.; Alice of Chanhassen, Minn., and David (Jody) of Lake Zurich, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Kate Rosok (Tim) of Minneapolis, Lauren Glanzer (Ryan) of Austin, Texas, Jenna Poulter of Chicago, Matt Poulter (Calla) of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Brian Poulter of Chicago.
Joyce also found joy and comfort in four great-grandchildren, Annika Rosok, John Glanzer, Theo Rosok and Julia Rosok. (Joyce's last textile project was knitting baby stocking caps for another expected great-grandchild - both pink and blue because the parents didn't want to pre-know the baby's gender.)
A public memorial service will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Fawn Creek Country Club in Anamosa starting at 2:30 p.m., with a tribute to Joyce at 3:30 p.m. Private family burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, with arrangements by Goettsch Funeral Home of Anamosa. The family suggests that any memorials be directed to the Anamosa Community School District Foundation (www.dbqfoundation.org/anamosaschools ) or the "Shining Star" employee-recognition program of the Presbyterian Homes Foundation (www.preshomes.org/get-to-know-us/foundation).
The family can be reached in care of Alice Poulter at 425 Chan View, Apt. #103, Chanhassen, MN 55317.
