With the busy summer travel season and one of the largest construction programs in the state's history underway, the Iowa Department of Transportation is expanding the ways in which travelers can conveniently access Iowa travel information when they are on the go.
Now, travelers can get personalized “My Reports” alerts via email and/or text message. Alerts keep travelers informed about traffic incidents, road closures and other restrictions that affect the highway routes users have preselected.
It's easy to subscribe to My Reports and sign up to receive the email/text alerts. Visit http://www.iowadot.gov/511/MyReportsAlerts.html for simple, step-by-step instructions.
Iowa's 511 service is a 24 hour/seven day-a-week service of the Iowa DOT that provides real-time updates about weather-related road conditions, road work, commercial vehicle restrictions, traffic incidents, road closures and other events that impact traffic.
Get highway route reports, view camera images, see weather warnings, read the messages displayed on active electronic road signs, and see traffic speeds in certain locations.
511 travel information is available:
- By phone (call 511 within Iowa or 800-288-1047 nationwide).
- On Facebook and Twitter (visit www.iowadot.com/511/socialmedia.html for details).
- On the Internet at www.511ia.org.
- In a mobile device-compatible format (visit www.511ia.org)
