A man who did not return to a halfway house from work release has been arrested in Cedar Rapids.
Torreone D. Sims, 25, had been on "escape status" since Saturday morning, when he did not return to the Lary Nelson Residential Center. He had been granted work release by the Iowa Board of Parole in February while he was serving a 10-year sentence for willful injury causing serious injury.
A Cedar Rapids police officer located Sims around 10:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and 25th Street NE. He was taken into custody without incident.
Sims was convicted in 2009 for his role in a home invasion at 1119 Third St. SW in January of that year. Police said two men with guns entered an apartment, and a man who lived there was struck in the face with one of the weapons.
Sims now faces a new charge of escape from custody, police said.
