EARLENE CAROLE KNOERNSCHILD

Earlene Carole Knoernschild of Mercer Island, Wash., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018.
A native of Kansas City, Kan., Earlene was born to Earl and Evelyn Long, on July 4, 1937. She attended Central Missouri State University and earned a degree in education. She married the love of her life, Gene Knoernschild, in 1960. They moved to Cedar Rapids, where they lived for 34 years before coming to the Seattle area. Gene passed in 2005, and she now joins him in eternity.
Earlene was a dedicated elementary school teacher for many years, and especially loved teaching fourth graders. She always enjoyed sewing, crafting, playing Scrabble, and always delighted in her five grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lee and Kent Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, David and Shannon Knoernschild; brothers, Jerry and Ray Long; and five grandchildren, Lars, Soren and Signe Johnson and Megan and Ella Knoernschild.
A celebration of Earlene's life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Mercer Island. The Rev. Sue Wanwig will be officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Seattle Children's Hospital or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
