The Dec. 22 article “Armed Iowans on the rise” may indicate how some people react to tragedies such as the Connecticut school shooting. Gun sales also went up in Colorado after the recent theater shooting tragedy. However, some of your readers may appreciate another perspective.
At the 1994 National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C., Mother Teresa of Calcutta addressed thousands of attendees, including President Bill and Hillary Clinton. Her speech included the following: “And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? ... Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want.” Mother Teresa understood what Pope John Paul II called “The culture of death.”
