A 20-year-old Iowa City woman was arrested on a charge of first-degree theft, a class C felony, on Friday after authorities say she stole money from a six-year-old girl in June.
Reports indicate that Mildred E. Henderson, of 2425 Bartelt Road Apt. 2A, is accused of taking approximately $20 in ones from a six-year-old girl who was near the Iowa City Advanced Auto Parts store located at 425 Highway Six East at 2:00 p.m. on June 16.
A witness told police that he had noticed the little girl counting what appeared to be a stack of bills in the parking lot and had seen a woman approach the girl, snatch the money from her hand and get into a car.
The man followed the car and got the license plate number. The vehicle was later stopped by police and Henderson was identified as the woman who allegedly took the child's money.
Iowa City Police say that the six-year-old child told authorities that she didn't know why the woman took her money.
Henderson was being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond Sunday.
