Mary Jo Hannemann was born Oct. 27, 1942, in Van Horne, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Freeman) Hannemann. Following graduation from Van Horne High School in 1960, she attended and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Nursing in 1962. She worked for University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for over 35 years in the orthopedics department, retiring in 2003.
She married Richard "Dick" Villhauer in December 1963. The couple made their home here in Iowa City on Keokuk Court, where they raised their two daughters, and she enjoyed her gardens every year and her numerous pets over the years. She was an avid sports fan, especially watching the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Cubs!
She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Van Horne and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church here in Iowa City. But most of all, she loved her family, especially when the grandchildren came along!
Her family includes her daughter, Sally and her husband, Brad Fisher; their children, Stephanie Clark and her husband, Grant, and Morgan Fisher; son-in-law, Brent Coffman, and his two children, Ambrose and Ella Coffman; brother, Tom Hannemann and his wife, Kathy, and their two children, Jeff and Kristen; and Mary Jo's former husband, Dick Villhauer, and his wife, Kathy.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Susie Coffman.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Mary Jo's family and her services.
