A Cedar Rapids man who stole a gun from Sports Outfitters last year was sentenced to over six years in federal prison.
Dante Glinn, 23, was convicted by a jury in January for one count of theft of a firearm from a licensed dealer.
Evidence at trial showed Glinn walked into the Cedar Rapids gun store on Aug. 25, 2015 and reached behind a display case and stole a .45 caliber Kimber pistol before running out of the store. Glinn also used an alias to get medical treatment at a local hospital that same night for a wound on his right arm that was visible in the store's surveillance videos, which helped investigators identify Glinn in the theft.
Glinn was seen shooting at two men, two days later, at a Cedar Rapids apartment complex, court documents show. Officers recovered three .45 caliber shell casings from the area where Glinn was seen shooting. Glinn hasn't been charged in that shooting since federal authorities pursued this case.
U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade sentenced Glinn to 78 months in prison and ordered him to pay restitution of $1,020 to Sports Outfitters. Glinn also must serve three years of supervised release after his prison term.
