Louis Stoll, 92, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Anamosa, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where a parish vigil service will be at 3:30 p.m.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph (Glenda) Stoll of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Elena) Stoll of Waxahachie, Texas; three daughters, Rebecca Stoll of Riverside, Mary Stoll of La Crescenta, Calif., and Judy Stoll of Anamosa; his special friend, Ellen Howard of Hazleton; grandchildren, Michelle Lochner of Atkins, Kris (Brent) Rule of Marion, Jessi Stoll of Cedar Rapids, Jack (Victoria) Lynch of New Jersey, Theara Stoll of Anamosa, Chuck Pavek of Cedar Rapids, Tiffany Smith and Ryan Johnson of La Crescenta, Calif., Sarah Stoll of Cedarburg, Wis., Annalisa Stoll of Waxahachie, Texas; Shelly Sargent and Carrie (Mark) Reiley of Cedar Rapids and Angie (Steve) Shoenfeld of Marion; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marguerite, on March 13, 2006; a son, Peter John Stoll, in 1975; four brothers, Alphonse (killed in the Korean War), Justin, Loras and Andy; his sister, Marian Rickels; and great-grandson, Spenser Stoll.
Louis Victor Stoll was born Oct. 4, 1923, near Hopkinton, Iowa, the son of Alphonse and Elizabeth Lehman Stoll. Louie attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Monticello. He fought with the Golden Gloves in his younger years. He also played on the local baseball team that played against other towns in the area. On April 14, 1947, Louis Stoll was united in marriage to Marguerite Alice Shifflett at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Anamosa. When he moved to Anamosa, he played softball until he turned 50 and had to retire because he broke his ankle trying to steal a base. Louie worked for Maquoketa Valley REC for 36 years, retiring in 1988. Louie had spent his retirement playing as much golf as possible at Fawn Creek in Anamosa, taking bus trips around the USA and following the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling team. Louie also was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.
