Kline, Eugene (Gene) Edwin Louis
Eugene (Gene) Edwin Louis Kline, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died in his sleep Friday, March 16, 2012, after complications from a stroke. Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors by American Legion Post 727. Arrangements are being made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Eugene was born on Jan. 14, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Helen M. Gilory Kline. Eugene attended school in Des Moines. He entered the United States Army in August 1957 serving in the Korean War. Upon his discharge in 1957, he returned to Iowa. In 1960, Eugene married Jean Annette Jacobi. The couple lived in Iowa City, before moving to Cedar Rapids. They divorced later in 1977. Eugene worked for Collins Radio, Wonder Bread, Pepperidge Farms and retired from a maintenance position at Cedar Rapids Community Trust.
Eugene enjoyed dancing, country music, John Wayne movies, home cooked meals and visiting and laughing with family and friends.
Eugene is survived by his four children, Tom (Debbie) Kline of Anamosa, Donald Kline of Brainerd, Minn., Debbie (Mike) Oates of Longville, Minn., and Bradley Kline (Lynn Shafranski) of Blaine, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Colleen) Nash of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Shirley Frees of Williams, and Marilyn (Bob) Fuhrman of Iowa City; and several nieces and nephews.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Helen Kline; a brother, Donald Kline; and brother-in-law, Marvin Frees.
