CEDAR RAPIDS -- Murderer's Row is coming up.
Friday night provided Cedar Rapids Kennedy a chance to unwind, relax and exhale.
The Cougars held Cedar Rapids Washington scoreless for a stretch of 13 minutes, 34 seconds, and walked to a 46-23 Mississippi Valley Conference boys' basketball conquest on Hall of Fame Night at Washington High School.
"I thought we came out with a really good mindset in the second half," said Kennedy Coach Bob Fontana. "The kids followed the game plan on both ends."
Kennedy (12-4 overall, 7-4 MVC) held an 18-13 lead with 2:46 left in the second quarter. Washington didn't score again until 5:12 remained in the fourth, and fell to 0-15 and 0-12.
By then, Kennedy led by 27 points and had its reserves in the game.
The Cougars face Linn-Mar on Saturday, followed by Class 4A No. 1 Iowa City West (Tuesday) and Cedar Rapids Jefferson (Friday).
"We're going to need a total team effort (through that stretch), and we've got to match their basketball IQ also," Fontana said.
Kennedy's Josiah Coleman led everyone with 12 points and six rebounds. Elliott Christians tacked on seven points for the Cougars.
Peter Holmes paced Washington with six points. The Warriors had 24 turnovers.
