Trump stopping in Des Moines tonight
Staff report
Dec. 8, 2016 12:18 pm
The Donald Trump 'thank you” tour is coming to Des Moines tonight.
Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence are scheduled to hold a rally at 7 p.m. at the Iowa Events Center.
The tour started in Cincinnati earlier this week and also stopped in North Carolina.
Joining Trump onstage will be Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, who said Wednesday he has accepted an invitation to serve as Trump's ambassador to China, and lieutenant governor Kim Reynolds, who would complete the balance of Branstad's term as governor if his nomination is confirmed.
Trump won Iowa by nearly 10 percentage points en route to his Nov. 8 victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton. But back in February, he had finished second in the caucuses to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.
Tonight's rally with Trump and Pence is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hy-Vee Hall. Free, first-come, first-served tickets are available at donaldjtrump.com.
