Former Hawkeye Tagyn Larson officially transferred to South Dakota State on Monday and will join the Jackrabbits on the court for the 2017-18 season after sitting out a year due to transfer rules.
Larson played in only five games and a total of 10 minutes as a true freshman at Iowa. The 6-foot-2 forward was an ESPN Top 100 recruit out of Sioux Falls, S.D.
'We are excited to welcome Tagyn to the Jackrabbit family," SDSU coach Aaron Johnston said in a release. "We followed her standout high school career very closely and at that time we built a great relationship with her and her family during the recruiting process. Tagyn's versatility as a player and tremendous athletic ability make her a perfect fit in our style of play. We are pleased she will be back in her home state to continue her academic and athletic career.'
Larson was one of two Iowa players last week to announce they're leaving the program. Sophomore guard Whitney Jennings has yet to name a new destination.
'Whitney's a great kid; Tagyn, too,' Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder said at the time. 'If they want to be closer to home, you can't do anything about it.'
'I've appreciated what the coaches have done for me and the opportunities that have been given to me at Iowa,' Larson said in an Iowa release last week. 'I've made lifelong friends in my teammates and it's been an experience I'm going to treasure forever. Looking ahead, I'm excited to start at a new school and have the best years I can there.'
Iowa Hawkeyes forward Tagyn Larson (24) looks for an opening to pass under pressure from Upper Iowa Peacocks guards Sam Ofstad (22) and Kari Fitzpatrick (3) during the second half of an exhibition game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City on Sunday, November 8, 2015. (Cliff Jette/The Gazette)
