Man arrested after breaking into Cedar Rapids home, smashing car windshield

A Cedar Rapids man was charged after breaking into a home Saturday night.
According to Cedar Rapids police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, two women were home at 417 B Ave. NW when two people kicked in the front door and entered the residence. The two women hid and called police.
Nothing was reported stolen, but one victim reported the windshield of her Ford Escape, which was parked outside, had been smashed.
Both subjects left in a vehicle, and when officers responded, the victim's were able to provide a description of the car, which was stopped at Center Point and Blairs Ferry roads in northeast Cedar Rapids at 10:15 p.m.
The passenger was identified as 39-year-old Marcus L. Brown, whose address was unavailable. He was taken into custody on charges of third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor, and second-degree burglary, a Class C felony.
He has since been released from custody, according to the Linn County Jail.
The female driver of the getaway vehicle was also released, Hamblin said. The incident remains under investigation.
Hamblin reported the door and victim's car sustained $950 in damage.
