Cary James Rhoads, 75, of Cedar Rapids, went home to the Lord on Friday, June 10, 2016, peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Eloise Rhoads.
He is survived by his soulmate, Donna Birkicht of Cedar Rapids; as well as his daughter, Pamela Robb (Gregory) of Virginia; his son, Jeff Rhoads (Barbara) of Georgia; four grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Cary spent the majority of his life farming. He received many accolades in agriculture. After retiring, he spent 26 years driving a school bus for Cedar Rapids school transportation. Cary enjoyed spending time with Donna and all of the families, as well as working in his yard.
Cary will truly be missed by everyone who was privileged to have known him.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Sharon United Methodist Church, 1809 Ninth St. SW, Cedar Rapids, with a celebration of his life to follow.
The family would like to thank the UnityPoint PCI chemo team, the Mayo Thoracic Department, as well as the UnityPoint Hospice team (Amy, Hannah, Angie and Barbara).
