Joseph Dolan
JOSEPH J. DOLAN
Cedar Rapids
Joseph J. Dolan, 92, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at Stone Crest Residence in Wausau, Wis., under the care of Interim Hospice and Palliative Care.
Joseph was born Dec. 8, 1923, in DeWitt, Iowa, to John and Ella (McGonegle) Dolan. He married Marjorie Long on Sept. 30, 1944, in Cedar Rapids.
In 1955, Joe moved his wife and four children up to Wausau to start his new job at Drott Manufacturing Co. In time, three more children came along. Joe retired as director of purchasing from Drott Manufacturing/JI Case after 30 years with the company.
Joe was an avid golfer, but his first love was baseball. He was honored to be appointed to the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame and Central Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame. For about 10 years, the Wisconsin Woodchucks annually awarded the Joe Dolan MVP trophy. He took pride in the fact that the 2003 recipient of this award was Ben Zobrist, the 2016 World Series MVP.
But his greatest joy and pride was his family. One of his favorite things was sitting in a room crowded with family and listening to the chatter. Dad/Grandpa will be deeply missed by all.
Joseph is survived by sons, Daniel (Cindy Comer) Dolan and John (Laurie) Dolan; daughters, Ann (John) Zientara, Mary (Scott) Kronenwetter, Jane Dolan, Lisa Dolan and Laura (Rich) Piacentini; brother, Gerald (Cathy) Dolan; 12 grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Dolan; wife, Marjorie Dolan; daughter-in-law, Carol Rusch Dolan; three brothers and three sisters.
A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Church of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 N. Second St., Wausau. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newman Catholic Schools in Joseph's name.
Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau, is assisting the family with arrangements.
