HARRY W. LUTZ
Cedar Rapids
Harry W. Lutz, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Nov. 3, 2015. Services for family members and close friends will be at a later date.
Harry was born March 3, 1919, in Linn County, Iowa, the son of John and Rose Lutz. He married Pauline on April 28, 1945, in Washington, D.C., where they met during World War II. Harry spent a year at Coe College before joining the Navy, where he served as a chief petty officer, responsible for training naval personnel in electronic systems during World War II. He worked as a department manager with Collins Radio Co. during his 30-year career and before his retirement at age 53.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman during most of his life, vacationing almost every year in Minnesota or Wisconsin to fish.
Harry and Pauline moved in 1970 from their northwest Cedar Rapids home to their small ranch in rural Toddville, where they lived until 1998. They raised cattle, fished in Williams Lake and hunted along the woodlands bordering the Cedar River. They then moved into a condominium in northeast Cedar Rapids, overlooking Dry Creek, which also ran through his boyhood farm home.
Survivors include his two sons, Robert and Thomas Lutz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Maxine Kinch; and his wife, Pauline Lutz.
Harry had many friends and helped a number of them to accomplish their goals. He was a role model for his sons, respected by his work colleagues and liked by his friends. He will be missed.
