Raygun to move Iowa City store

Iowa-born apparel store Raygun will move its Iowa City location to a new spot this summer.
Raygun will relocate to 132 E. Washington St. in late July, founder Mike Draper said Monday. The store will take over a space that formerly housed a Cold Stone Creamery, about two blocks away from Raygun's current location at 103 E. College St.
Draper said the new location will have about 1,800-square-feet of storefront, up from Raygun's existing 1,200 square feet. It also should give the shop more visibility in downtown Iowa City and on the Ped Mall.
While most of the store's products will be similar to the other location, Draper said Raygun is now licensed to sell University of Iowa-branded items.
'It's gets us a couple of things - the space is bigger, we've got direct access to either a sidewalk or a street, and I think it's a bad--- corner in terms of south-facing on Washington Street and it faces the Ped Mall so you can see Englert (Theatre) and Ragstock from there,” he said.
Draper said he is aiming for the new space to open by Friday, July 27, the same day RAGBRAI comes into Iowa City.
The current location, which opened in 2010, will remain open in the interim.
Raygun also has stores in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines.
