Charles "Chuck" Kunstorf, 77, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids as a result of an accident at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery near Newhall. Visitation will be at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.
A memorial fund has been established.
To honor Chuck's wishes, the casket will remain closed at all times.
"Chuck" was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Newhall to Everett and Mabel "Micky" (Anderson) Kunstorf, and graduated from Newhall High School in 1956. He served his nation in the U.S. Army and in the Reserves for six years. On Sept. 20, 1964, he was united in marriage to Carol Werning at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne.
Before his retirement, he owned and operated Chuck's 66 Station in Newhall. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
The Yankees were at the top of his enjoyment, along with his avid Hawkeyes. He enjoyed fishing and camping and playing Russian Rummy with Carol, antiquing and transactions on eBay.
His greatest joy came from time spent with family, his grandchildren and friends, who were most important to him.
In life, Chuck was a "giver," as he was in death by being a donor so many lives will benefit.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Newhall; his sons, Todd (Kari) Kunstorf of Cedar Rapids and Timothy Kunstorf of Orlando, Fla.; his grandchildren, Charlie, Will, Emily and Kayla; his sister, Charlotte (Richard) Stanford of Hiawatha; and his brother, Curtis Kunstorf of California.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Dayton.
Chuck's family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and staff in the intensive care unit at St. Luke's for their tender care of Chuck and his family. Also to the Newhall First Responders and Blairstown Ambulance for their efforts.
