Margaret M. Schmidt, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Heritage Specialty Care. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Hospice Chaplain Mike Goodrich will officiate. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her sister, Ruby Nelson; four nephews of Williston, N.D.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Gary Williams of Brainerd, Minn., and Jacquelyn and David Kinney of Vinton; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother-in-law, Robert Nelson; her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Richard Stewart; and her son, Harlan Jr.
Margaret was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Marie Wegner. She graduated fom high school in Ionia and went on to graduate from Hamilton College of Business in Mason City. Margaret's first job was at Commercial Bank in Charles City. She married Harlan Schmidt on Dec. 10, 1943, in Rochester, Minn. They moved to Cedar Rapids and Margaret worked for Diamond V Mills for 25 years.
She was a member of American Business Women's Association, being president, Woman of the Year and listed in the Top 100 of Who's Who in American Business Women.
Margaret was an excellent seamstress. She made her daughter's wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses. She enjoyed many kinds of hand needlework.
Margaret loved to have guests in her home and all were welcome anytime.
Mom was very special and so loved by many.

The family would like to extend a very loving and heartfelt thank-you to Heritage Specialty Care for four years of wonderful care. Mom loved all of you and so enjoyed her "Good Morning Song." Also a special thanks to Care Initiatives Hospice for the care given to Margaret in her final weeks. They exemplify God's work her on earth.
